Advantages / Bee-nefits
Benefits of Local Honey
People have been consuming honey for thousands of years. Honey is believed to have antioxidant, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Natural Remedy for Allergies
In addition to being delicious, local, raw honey may help with seasonal pollen allergies. Local honey contains pollen the bees collect from local plants. Pollen allergies are caused by these same plants. Some people find consuming local honey improves their annoying symptoms.
Nectar for Wounds
The thick golden liquid is packed with germ-killing and tissue-regenerating powers, so local honey is commonly used to treat wounds and reduce infections. Try one of our bees wax salves. They come in multiple scents.
Nature’s Snoozer
If you’re having trouble sleeping, consider adding a spoonful of honey to your bedtime routine. Honey aids the release of melatonin – a hormone crucial for your body’s nightly restoration. It may also improve your quality of sleep.

Say Hi at Vernon Farmers Market
At Butler Bees, we provide high quality honey and honeycomb as well as other honey bee related products. We support sustainable farming practices in our community. The best honey comes from strong productive healthy hives that live and thrive in our own backyard. We spend countless hours “keeping the bees” making sure they have good nectar, pollen and water sources.

Local Honey
Our honey is carefully hand-harvested, run through a sieve to remove any wax particles and then held at hive temperature to preserve the natural goodness that can only be produced by nature. Our raw honey is never heated, ensuring each bottle contains the local pollen and enzymes that are naturally present in raw honey.

Meet
Patti Butler,
Master Beekeeper
Patti has a BS in Agricultural Science from Auburn University. She met her husband, Jimmy, while both working for the USDA. The two married in 1988 and established Thunderhill Farms, their homestead in Lamar County, Alabama.
After retiring in 2011, they began keeping bees. Shortly, thereafter, Butler Bees was created to offer their honey and honey products to others in the community. Completely fascinated with bees, Patti earned her Master Beekeeper certification in 2021. What started as a fascinating hobby, quickly grew into a passion – a passion not only for beekeeping, but also for discovering the many health benefits that bee products provide.
Patti is the Founder and 1st President of the Tri County Beekeeper Association, where she and Jimmy remain active today. They are active in 4 different local bee clubs and mentor new beekeepers.
In addition to beekeeping, Patti and Jimmy are both Master Gardeners. They are regulars at the Vernon Farmers Market and participate at other markets, festivals, and competitions.
In 2018, Butler Bees won 2nd place in the Black Jar Contest for the best tasting honey in the state of Alabama. If you want to taste some of Alabama’s best honey, then it’s at Butler Bees!

“How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light for my path.”
